It reviews gender differences in the evaluation of heart disease, assesses the asymptomatic woman, and discusses cardiovascular disease in relation to diabetes mellitus, obesity, smoking, and pregnancy.

Pharmacracy: Medicine and Politics in America. Author: Thomas Szasz. Westport, CT: Praeger Publishers, c2001. WA 525 S996p 2001 The trend towards transforming personal troublesome behaviors and social problems into diseases, and judicial sanctions into treatments, leads to a type of government social critic Szasz calls "pharmacracy", wherein the welfare state is replaced by the therapeutic state. He cautions that when private medical concerns are perceived as requiring a political response, government has too much power over our health, causing personal freedom and health care choices to be curtailed.

Why God Won't Go Away. Authors: Andrew Newberg, Eugene d'Aquili, Vince Rause. New York: Ballantine Publishing, c2001. BL 65 .M4 N494 2001 Based on assessments of the brain and its activity when God is experienced, the authors discovered that spiritual contemplation triggers an alteration of brain activity. Their investigations of brain function and behavior involved imaging techniques to examine the brains of meditating Buddhists and Franciscan nuns at prayer. These explorations in the field of neurotheology indicate a complex relationship between spirtuality and the brain which can be observed, recorded, and photographed.
