PDA News
Palm Pilots, iPaqs, Pocket PC's
by Evelyn Breck Morgen, MLS
Associate Library Director
Join the library’s new PDA user group
The good news about PDAs is the amount of information you can now carry
with you in a device that’s smaller than a deck of cards. However,
you need to explore a whole new world of software, vocabulary, hardware,
and procedures to truly make them useful. One way to do that is to join
our new PDA user group. You can share your successes and frustrations,
learn how other people here at UCHC are using them, and pick up some new
tips. Our first meeting will be Wednesday January 22nd at noon in the
library. Register by logging onto our website.
Try our new PDA syncing station
Would you like to update your AvantGo or ePocrates or some other
PDA database without going back to your desk? You can now use our Clarinet
infrared PDA syncing station in the library. It allows you to update databases
you already have on your PDA without using a cradle. It’s located
next to the uniprint station – ask about it at the front desk. Here
are instructions on how it works:
Palms - http://library.uchc.edu/pda/infrared-palm.html
Windows based (iPaqs) - http://library.uchc.edu/pda/infrared-windows.html

Take an introductory class on PDAs
If you’d like an introductory class on PDAs, we’re offering
one on Tues, Jan 28th from noon – 1pm. It’s called WHAT IS
A PDA AND WHY DO I NEED ONE? You’ll learn about the features of
both the Palm and iPaq PDAs. You’ll also see some of the medical
applications you can add to your PDA. Resources to be covered include
InfoRetriever, MedMath, ePocrates, Handheldmed and AvantGO. You can register
by logging onto our website at: http://library.uchc.edu/eduoff/regis2.html
